Our Story
Randall Roberts is an editor, writer and musical connector best known for his work writing and editing with the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly. In his career as a journalist he's written about music, culture, technology, TV, film and food. A two-time Getty/USC-Annenberg Arts Journalism fellow, Mr. Roberts has witnessed and adapted to the profound changes in journalism and storytelling since his start in the 1990s.
An exacting grammarian and a stickler for linguistic precision who aims to encourage writers’ best instincts, Mr. Roberts has edited and reported on quick-turnaround deadlines and in extreme conditions such as the VIP tent at Coachella, backstage at the Grammy Awards and in a terry-cloth-robed Axl Rose’s dressing room after a Guns ‘n Rose concert. He’s worked with writers bylined in publications including the New York Times, NPR, the Washington Post, Pitchfork and the Guardian.
In addition to essays, features and critic's notebooks, Mr. Roberts has interviewed artists including:
Herbie Hancock, Joanna Newsom, Brian Eno, Björk, Mark Mothersbaugh, Tom Waits, Annie Clark, Axl Rose, Jennifer Herrema, Schoolboy Q, Ty Segall, Mick Jagger, DJ Mustard, Minutemen, Naked Raygun, Will Oldham, Lucinda Williams, Florian Schnieder (Kraftwerk), YG, Flying Lotus, John Darnielle, Ozomatli, Boards of Canada, Earl Sweatshirt, Miguel, Tom Petty, Stephin Merritt, Jeff Tweedy and Ty Dolla $ign. He’s eaten White Castles with Jerry Lewis, had cocktails with Josh Groban and been stared down by PJ Harvey in a cafe booth for asking about her lyrics.

*Note to potential collaborators: The ‘Our Team’ section is fictional. I do not employ four 1970s-era ex-cons, nor do I run my business out of a double-wide. It’s a mansion too big to fit on the page, earned from a lifetime of hard, flawless work. (Elowyn Little, though, is a decent writer nonetheless.)
